Hagood presented town with an acre lot just outside of corporate limits on the Glassy Mountain Rd for a cemetery. o----------o From: Gary Brightwell Sent: Friday, December 15, 2006 11:33 AM Yes, Paul, I do know what this refers to. This is in reference to Sunrise Cemetery which is on Cedar Rock St. in Pickens. It became the first "town" cemetery. The only other cemetery up until that pt. was the Methodist Church cemetery. (I am telling you all of this from memory, but I am certain about Sunrise Cemetery & J.E. Hagood) The current Cedar Rock St. was earlier referred to as Glassy Mtn. Rd. I believe you may find a reference to this in Jane Morris's THE HISTORY OF PICKENS AND THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. If you don't have a copy, you surely need to get one as it is a "Bible" on the town of Pickens and was done with excellent research. (can probably get a copy from the Pickens County Museum or maybe even First Baptist Church) Before publication of Jane Morris's book, Ms. Pearl McFall's books ("It Happened in Pickens County", etc.) were the main source of reference for the town of Pickens and much of her information has since proven to be less than reliable.
